Sewing Machine Kenmore 158.882 Vintage 1960's Model 88 Tri-Span Automatic, with Embroidery Cams/Extras and full set of attachments in original fancy plastic attachment-box. Very clean, shiny metal parts and trim, no rust, just some cosmetic chips in the paint, and all the working parts are in excellent condition, probably not much different from how they were when this machine was brand new!!!
This Kenmore 158.882 "Model 88" Tri-Span Automatic Sewing Machine is a VERY Heavy-duty Zig-Zag 'Low-Shank' machine with loads of extras, including Cams 1-28 of the set of 30 original Kenmore A-Cams, in a gold-trimmed white plastic box. The Kenmore Model 88 is very similar to the Model 90. It supports two-thread stitching with twin-needles, one twin needle is included. Uses Class 15 Bobbins, and takes standard 15x1 needles, both widely available.
Has built-in zigzag and uses cams for other decorative stitches. This machine comes with 28 of the 30 Kenmore "A-Cams" that were originally included with the machine, and a large set of standard presser-feet attachments and some optional special-purpose extra attachments including a transparent Q-Foot with a couple of Q-Needles, and a spring-loaded embroidery/darning foot, and a bunch of standard extras including needles, bobbins, screw drivers, a lint brush, a pin-cushion, a pair of tiny scissors, bias-butting gauge, seam-guide, several hemmers in various sizes, and edge-stitcher, a multi-slotted binder, and a thimble. Also includes printouts of a few important pages of the reference manual (which were found online). Includes Foot Controller in good working condition, wiring is also in fairly good condition. The bobbin case and several bobbins are included. OPTIONAL Cabinet for an extra $15 (plus shipping), ask for pictures if interested. I highly recommend mounting this machine in a sturdy cabinet since it is very heavy.
This was one of the TOP-OF-THE LINE MODELS in the early 1960's, and it is trimmed/decorated with shiny gold accents on the machine and the accessories box. Has All Metal mechanisms (see pictures), made with Top-Quality Jaguar/Maruzen materials and precision workmanship. This is a VERY Heavy Duty Sewing Machine which has a Strong 1.2 Amp Powerful Motor. Can Sew 10+ Layers of Denim and easily goes over humps without skipping stitches.
Freshly cleaned, oiled, adjusted, and tested ---Works GREAT!!! Try it out and see for yourself, this is one of the toughest sewing machines you can get for this price... WAY better than anything you can buy new for under $500. Built to last, probably will last another 50 years or more if oiled regularly - printed copy of the oiling diagram is included. This Model 88 Kenmore Sewing Machine is considered one of the best Sears / Kenmore Sewing Machines ever made, according to what I have read on online sewing-machine discussion groups that include many knowledgeable and experienced Vintage Kenmore Collectors and Sewing Machine Mechanics in general.
Nonetheless, this is _not_ an 'industrial' sewing machine, despite the many sewing machine sellers (such as is often seen on on the major online auction venues) who label machines like this as being 'industrial' or 'industrial-strength'.
Has built-in zigzag and can sew other embroidery stitches with the Kenmore "A-Cams". The left-most knob on the front of the machine adjusts an option for the embroidery cam-stitches, allowing for two settings for the frequency of the pattern by making the cam spin at two different speeds.
This Kenmore "Model 88" Sewing Machine is basically the same as the Kenmore Models 90 and 92 with a few minor differences. The 158 part of the model number indicates that this model was made by Jaguar / Maruzen (in Japan). Vintage circa 1961-1965.
Supports two-thread stitching with twin-needles. Uses common class 15 bobbin, 15x1 needles and standard low-shank presser feet attachments. All these accessories are commonly available.
